Hip Hop Congress
VOTER WORK
HHC is currently working to develop their political work to utilize the university/community chapter infrastructure that currently exists.
DESCRIPTION
The Hip Hop Congress uses the culture of Hip Hop to inspire young people to get involved social action, civic service, and cultural creativity. Hip Hop Congress is the product of a merger of artists and students, music and community. It is significant because it provides one of few paths for highly creative and often disenfranchised youth where they can channel their energy into a strong and organized force aimed at improving their community.
OUR BUSINESS Our chapter programs, already located in eighteen colleges and three high schools nationwide, provides an organization that helps encourage students to become socially conscious community organizers. The chapters are Hip Hop Congress' pipeline into local communities through programs like Awareness Festivals, Lectures, Academic Discussions, Hip Hop Shows that educate on the four elements (mentioned above), and community action such as canned food drives and beach clean-ups.
The Hip Hop Congress' music program gives artists the classes, resources and mentoring necessary to sculpt their careers. It also connects these artists with events or festivals initiated by other educational groups in order to give the artist practice and exposure while helping that organization draw a more eclectic audience. We currently have approximately 100 artists and groups spanning across the globe in our roster of involved artists.
The Hip Hop Congress website posts diverse views on a variety of issues in order to inspire thought, on-line conversation and subsequent activity in the ‘real world'. With over 3000 hits a week from all over the world, the Hip Hop Congress is gaining a reputation for being a worldwide hub for education due to our honest, yet critical reporting and wide breadth of coverage.
Hip Hop Congress' growing international diplomacy program is in the midst of working with organizations in France, Africa, England, Belgium and Czech Republic with the intention of creating after school programs and sharing projects created in these schools in a pen pal type relationship through the use of technology such as Web TV.
The Hip Hop Congress national office, with eight regulars in attendance at all times is an active think tank that devises new initiatives using the Hip Hop Congress' tools to create new inspiration and action in local communities.
GOALS The goal of The Hip Hop Congress is to create a viable forum for people to learn, express themselves, interact with diverse ideas and cultures, and gain the tools they need to facilitate their own goals. The Hip Hop Congress hopes to set up a global marketplace and network where like-minded individuals and communities can connect, share resources and develop ideas and strategy. While the Hip Hop Congress is founded on an ideal, our actions are pragmatic and powerful.
