WHAT'S NEW

The Iowa Participation Project

The Iowa Participation Project supports planning and coordination
of voter registration, GOTV and voter protection among participating
groups and also supports the recruitment of additional groups
throughout the state. Among the groups working together in the
Project are Iowa Citizen Action Network, New Voters Project, League
of Rural Voters, Every Child Matters and IA Farmers Union.

The Project provides technical and material support to groups
already working on voter registration and civic participation,
identifying and training additional constituency groups, and maintaining
on-going and regular communications between and among participating
groups. The goal is to ensure that 501c3 groups in Iowa who are
working to support civic engagement activities are able to operate
in ways that reduce duplication while maximizing their effectiveness.
Iowa Participation Project staff will also help provide communications
support for participant outreach and public relations efforts.

Specific activities will include the creation and operation of
a statewide list serve and web page, maintenance of a shared civic
engagement calendar, hosting of regular training phone calls and
in-person seminars, hosting of coordination meetings and assistance
in developing and implementing work plans for voter contact and
GOTV activities.

In addition, Iowa Participation Project staff will assist 501c3
groups in community outreach and training for communities interested
in developing GOTV programs in historically under-represented
communities. We will help link participating groups with information
and technical support resources made available through National
Voice.
